Fire Danger Higher than Ever

7-22-04 - A wet June that was followed by a dry July is spelling fire danger for Texoma. Yesterday alone, Sherman firefighters battled three separate grass fires, and they say it's just the beginning.

They say the extra rain in June has caused more vegetation growth, which means more flammable material as dry season arrives. Firefighters recommend clearing excess vegetation around your house or at least cutting it low.

The next step for authorities will be enacting fire bans in local cities and counties.
