7-19-04 - A case of animal cruelty in Bryan County has shocked a neighborhood and authorities. A Sheriff’s investigator says two teenagers hung a dog by a chain and beat it to death with a baseball bat.

The incident began last Wednesday and lasted two days in a rural area near Armstrong. Neighbors told First News that two boys, ages 16 & 19, chased a family dog and kicked it, breaking the leg of the Chihuahua-Dachshund mix. Later, the two hung the dog by a chain and took turns hitting it, until it was dead. Two young children also witnessed the attack.

The investigator says the teens confessed to the crime, claiming that they were angry at the dog for getting into the trash. The 16-year-old boy is in a juvenile facility facing felony charges of animal cruelty. The 19-year-old from Armstrong is still being investigated.
