Cameras Aimed at Illegal Dumps

7-19-04 - Sherman authorities will be using hidden cameras to catch people violating dumping ordinances and stealing signs. They’ll target several hot spots around the city that are the sites of costly trash cleanup. The tiny surveillance cameras will be able to video during day and nighttime hours, catching lawbreakers in the act.

City officials say the problems have gotten out of control – some of the cleanups of illegal dumps have cost upwards of $1,500.

In other areas, thieves continue to make off with street signs.

The cameras will be paid for through a state grant of $3,000 and should be installed sometime this summer.
