7-28-04 - Cell phone cameras could soon be a thing of the past at local schools – already two area districts are banning the devices, to prevent cheating and invasion of privacy.

The Van Alstyne and Anna school districts won’t allow the camera phones on campus this year. They fear students would be able to snap photos of test materials, and then send it to students outside the classroom. But the worries don’t stop there. Privacy issues inside locker rooms and restrooms are also cause for concern.

The Texas Association of School Boards is encouraging all schools to ban camera phones. Sherman and Denison school leaders told First News they would consider the ban if cases of cheating arise in the future.
