07-30-04 - DALLAS (AP) The death toll stands at two and a third person is still missing Friday after flash floods raged throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The floods Thursday resulted from up to 13 inches of rain in the early hours of the morning.
Police say the body of a man was found in an S U V that was washed from a bridge over Rush Creek in southern Arlington. His name still hasn't been released. And 52 year old Michael Miles Sawyer of Ovilla was found dead under debris just downstream from a washed-out bridge over Red Oak Creek south of Dallas.
A search continues for another person believed washed away at the Red Oak Creek bridge on Ovilla Road. Elsewhere, people began to assess damage after more than a foot of rain fell in parts of the region.
In the south Dallas suburb of Lancaster, city officials hope for state and federal disaster aid after flooding damaged as many as 200 homes.
An insurance industry group expects 17 million to 20 million dollars in North Texas damage claims from rain damage alone not counting flood damage.
