8-5-04 - Durant's city manager placed Police Chief Roy Brown on paid administrative leave Thursday, a move that comes more than one week after a no confidence vote by the Fraternal Order of Police.

City Manager Paul Buntz will hold a hearing next Friday to determine Brown's future with the department. Until then, Assistant Chief Greg Pollack is in charge.

The FOP vote, according to sources, centered around policy disagreements. The officers claimed Chief Brown is changing policies like shift rotation, without consulting the FOP. Six grievances had also been filed against Brown in the past year.

A private assessment group began evaluating morale last week.

A similar situation arose about four years ago. FOP members voted no confidence in former chief Jack Jones. He later retired.
