Birthday giving

DENISON -- A Grayson County family is teaching their child about giving at an early age. Max Hinsley's friends and family dropped off a trailer full of supplies to the Grayson County Shelter Monday night.

At Max's first birthday party on Saturday, family members asked party-goers to bring supplies for the shelter instead of gifts. Max's mom Rachel received a list of items the shelter needs including diapers, cleaning supplies, pillows, and paper goods.

"We wanted to have a big party and we don't need a lot of presents so we came up with this," Rachel said.

The shelter director says she is grateful for the generosity. She plans to use the pillows and towels in a welcome packet for shelter residents.

This is the best thing I have heard of in a long time. Thank you for the wonderful ideas that can be used at any time of the year. Also the food banks, crisis center and women's shelter could use the same help.

Now this is a perfect example of how to raise a child to love and give! Keep up the good work Max's parents! This is a cool idea for one of those "theme birthday" parties!

What a wonderful example of love and giving in a world that all too often is about getting and not giving. Thank you for reminding us what is important.
