Head-On Accident Kills Woman, Horse

7-31-04- A two-car accident on Highway 377 in Grayson County killed one person, seriously injured two others and killed a horse Saturday afternoon. It is taking investigators some time to figure out exactly what happened in the accident they call one of their worst in recent memory.

Collinsville first responders got the call just after 5 p.m. They responded to the accident on Highway 377 just south of Tioga to find one vehicle on fire and a person trapped inside. By-standers were already helping put the fire out. Firefighters removed the person from the vehicle. That victim was transported by care-flight to a Dallas Hospital. She died there on Sunday.

The other vehicle was a pick-up truck hauling a tractor-trailer carrying two horses. One of those horses was killed in the accident. The driver and passenger of that vehicle were also seriously injured. One was transported to Wilson N. Jones Medical Center and the other was careflighted from the scene to a Dallas Hospital.

The highway was shut down most of the evening and traffic was diverted east.

Investigators are not releasing the names of the victims and are not saying what caused the accident. It is still under investigation.
