8-3-04 - Texas schools will have no tolerance this year for children who aren’t up to date on their vaccinations. Beginning this month, schools will send a child home who hasn’t received all of his shots.
In the past, Texas schools gave students a 30-day grace period to get their shots. But concerns over the spread of illnesses, and some parents delaying the shots, allowed for the chance in policy. Beginning this year, students must also meet vaccination requirements by their grade, not their age.
Most schools in Texas start next week. Doctors say it's best to get into your local health department early to beat the rush.
