8-4-04 - Denison Firefighters may have been out of practice, but they found success with the Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. During the 2nd weekend in July, firefighters stationed outside Denison’s Wal-Mart collected more than $4,600 for MDA.
It was the first time they’d taken part in the effort in 15 years, mostly due to a city ordinance that banned soliciting in the street. In the past, firefighters would man street corners and wade into traffic taking donations. Similar laws have reduced the amount of fundraising for MDA in Dallas, which means Denison’s efforts were much needed.
