08-5-04 - UNDATED (AP) - Multiple plane crashes in the past week have claimed Texas victims. Sixteen have died since Sunday in five separate crashes, four of which were in Texas. In the past two days, nine people have died in two crashes in North and Central Texas.

On Wednesday, a plane went down in Olney around 9 am, killing three people. The victims were identified as pilot 65 year old Max Rae of Longview; 38 year old David Hancock of Gladewater; and 69 year old Joel Smith of Kerrville.

The aircraft was a single-engine Mooney registered to an owner in Gladewater. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the plane crashed and burned at the end of the runway at Olney Municipal Airport.

A second North Texas crash on Wednesday happened during an approach to Mineral Wells Municipal Airport. The plane hit power lines and burst into flames, killing two people.

Six people including an 18 month old child died on Tuesday when a small plane crashed into a mansion near Austin. They were from the Oklahoma City and Edmond areas.

And in Grayson County, a father and son from Sanger died Sunday when their small experimental plane crashed into the yard of a home in Collinsville. They were identified as 43 year old William Noel and 15 year old Alex Noel. That investigation has been turned over to the FAA and the NTSB.
