Men Released Amid Charges of Terrorist Ties in Dallas

DALLAS (AP) - Three men indicted in Dallas on charges of using a
Muslim charity to finance terrorists were released today as they
face trial in October.

A magistrate ordered the release of the men, including the
president and chairman of the Richardson-based Holy Land Foundation
for Relief and Development.

Prosecutors say the foundation was a financial supporter of the
militant group Hamas, but attorneys for the men say that's not so.
Holy Land president Shukri Abu Baker, chairman Ghassan Elashi
and a top fund-raiser, Mufid Abdulqader, were freed.

Two other defendants were arrested in California and New Jersey
and will be returned to Texas. Another two are fugitives outside the US.

Attorney General John Ashcroft on July 27th announced the
indictments on charges including conspiracy, aiding a designated
terrorist group and money laundering.
