8-10-04 – Two people have died after a semi-accident on highway 69 nearly two miles south of Colbert, in Bryan County. It happened just before 11:30 Monday night.

The driver of the semi-truck, 29 year old Shawn R. Wright of San Angelo, died on the scene. His passenger, 18 year old Amber D. Rose of Christoval, died six hours later at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Both had massive internal injuries.

Troopers believe the semi was driving north on US 69 when it ran off the right side of the road and crashed into the overpass to River Road.

The driver was pinned for nearly three hours and it took rescuers thirty minutes to free the passenger.

DPS shut down the northbound lanes of highway 69 for more than six hours overnight. One lane was reopened Tuesday morning. However, the River Road overpass which leads into Colbert is shut down until a safety inspection can be completed.

Troopers are investigating the cause.
