Scouts Team Up to Cut Electric Costs

8-11-04 - Gloria Luper of Sherman stands to gain up to $219 in annual energy savings after members of Boy Scout Troop 66 completed TXU Energy's Home Energy Makeover at her Sherman home Wednesday.

The scouts first performed an online energy audit on Ms. Luper’s residence, then used the results of the audit to make the energy conservation improvements.

The TXU Energy project in Sherman is part of the company's 2004 summer initiative to build energy conservation awareness across a wide area of Texas.

"All kinds of makeovers are popular today, but this Home Energy Makeover will provide benefits in the form of savings for years to come," said Mike Guyton, TXU Energy vice president of customer service. "These scouts are a credit to their troop and a great example for the community. They worked hard and learned a lot, and we appreciate their participation."

TXU Energy developed the project to show that even residents with no special home improvement skills can make simple changes and bring substantial energy savings.

The basis for the project was the TXU Home Energy Advisor, TXU Energy's free online energy audit, where customers can enter basic information about their home and immediately get customized energy-saving ideas.

TXU Energy is the competitive electric retailer of TXU Corp. in Dallas, which has been providing Texans with reliable energy service and enthusiastic community support for 100 years. TXU Energy is the largest electricity retailer in Texas and a leading electricity retailer nationally.
