New School Building at Stake in Davis

8-12-04 - School leaders in Davis are asking voters to come to their rescue this month – approving a $3.35 million bond issue on August 24. They’ll use the money to build a new 22-room elementary school and leave behind their current building, which has been in use since 1966. The bond would also pay for the re-roofing and re-wiring of the high school and new air and heating units as well.

Teachers say the current facility is too small and limits their abilities to focus on individual students. But over the last three years, taxpayers have turned down two other school bond issues.

If the bond does pass, the district would turn the current elementary school, which is an underground building, into a community storm shelter.
