8-15-04- A Canadian County judge has upheld a law that allows active-duty military members to delay making child support payments.
Muriel Doyle-Williams, of Ada, had challenged the Service Members Civil Relief Act of 2003. She wanted Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey L. Doyle
to make the payments. The two have an eleven year old daughter,
Doyle is serving with the Marines in Afghanistan.
Special District Judge John L. Wolking has ruled in favor of the law.
The federal law gives military members certain rights as they enter active duty. It covers rental agreements, security deposits, credit card interest rates, mortgage foreclosures and income tax payments, among other things.
