8-18-04 - A friendly softball tournament took a fateful turn Tuesday night when doctors feared a player had broken her neck.
During a tournament in Marietta, a Sulphur player running the bases hit a 3rd baseman with Comanche. The 15-year-old Comanche girl initially couldn’t feel her face and had tingling in her hands. X-rays taken at a local hospital showed a fracture of her neck, but doctors in Oklahoma City later realized it was only a pinched nerve.
Sulphur players were back at practice Wednesday, but said the memories of the incident were still fresh in their minds. Both coaches agree that the accident was just part of the game.
The injured player is back at home in Comanche. She should resume play next week,
