ARDMORE, Okla. -- The Ardmore Animal Shelter is reporting their biggest jump ever in abandoned pets. The animal shelter had over 900 strays and abandoned pets for the month of June, their largest amount in the 7-year history of the shelter.
The shelter usually has around 200 pets available for adoption and that is at maximum capacity. During June, they had to euthanize over 600 animals that couldn’t be adopted.
Shelter officials say it’s frustrating to see this many animals neglected.
"We receive about 7,500 pets a year and there are not always 7,500 owners that can take a pet in," said shelter director Kim Lee.
If you would like to adopt one of the animals, contact the Ardmore Animal Shelter. Right now adoption rates are half-price.
