Concussion Cards for Friday Night Football

Video will be available shortly.

8-23-04 - As Friday night football kicks off this week in Texas, state leaders are hoping a small card will help protect thousands of players.

The University Interscholastic League has issued laminated cards to almost every 4A and 5A school in Texas - to make sure coaches recognize the signs of a concussion.

They'll be carried in coaches' back pockets, medical kits, and on clip boards. If a concussion or neck injury occurs, the card details exactly how to evaluate and handle the situation.

The laminated card lists all the signs of a concussion and provides guidelines for evaluating the severity, such as counting backwards and recalling recent events.
