8-24-04 - As Friday night football kicks off in Texas this week, two schools will have a change of scenery on their own field. Denison and Celina both switched to articial turf this summer, which will cut down on maintenance and prevent turf problems of the past.

Known as Field Turf, the sand and rubber mixture forms a padded surface that cushions players, while as the same time having a grass-life feel.

Denison's field cost about $400,000 and was paid for through foundation money. Celina's was paid for by a bond. Both districts see the fields as a great investment. They won't have to worry about mowing or seeding new turf.

The same company that did Celina's field just finished installing the turf for the Cincinatti Bengals.
