8-25-04 - The Friday night football kickoff this week will mean a bit more to a Pilot Point teenager. Tyler Lane will watch this season from the sideline - a season some people thought he'd never see.
A bone marrow transplant gave Tyler a second chance at life - helping him beat Leukemia. And although he'll likely stay on the sidelines, he is watching the Bearcats practice, someday hoping to make a comeback as a receiver.
It's a far cry from the summer before his freshman year - not long after he was diagnosed with leukemia. When he started losing his hair from the chemotherapry, his teammates cut their hair off in a unified show of team spirit. Tyler would end up spending months at Cook Children's Hospital, in and out of intensive care.
Now, coaches call him an inspiration for his fellow teammates, while friends say he's a miracle.
Tyler is now cancer-free, his leukemia in remission. He hopes to make it back on the field in the spring in time for baseball season.
