Prison Proposal in Fannin County

Video will be available shortly.

8-25-04 - Overcrowded prisons in Texas could spell big business for Fannin County. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has already inquired with the county about housing inmates at the jail, but one county leader is proposing a much larger venture.

Already home to the Buster Cole and Choice Moore Units – minimum security prisons outside of Bonham – the County Judge Derrell Hall wants the state to build a new, maximum-security prison on adjacent land.

He says the property would be perfect because it already has a water and sewer main.

Any answer on the proposal could be far off though. For the time being, the state will depend on county jails across the state to house the overflow of inmates.
