14 Months Later - Manslaughter Indictment

Video will be available shortly.

8-25-04 - A Grayson County grand jury indicted a Denison teenager for involuntary manslaughter. It comes 14 months to the day after Justin Clarke ran down 16-year-old Katie Zirges as she crossed FM 1417 in south Sherman. Clarke, 18, had been drinking.

Zirges’ mother testified in front of the grand jury Wednesday. She shared what she calls 14 months of agony, waiting for the wheels of justice to indict Clarke. Prosecutors had said before the complex case was taking longer than first expected.

Now the prosecution will have to prove the reason Clarke hit and killed Katie was a direct result of the alcohol in his system. He was also driving without a valid license the night of the accident.
