8-26-04 - DENTON, Texas (AP) An oil worker has been convicted of manslaughter in the death of another young oil-rig worker at a Denton County oil rig.
A Denton County jury Wednesday found 38 year old Louis Goodman of Ponder guilty in the death of 23 year old Shawn Davis.
Prosecutors say Davis was dragged face first through a metal door in a hazing incident at the rig where Goodman was a supervisor. Davis had been on the job for less than a week before his death.
Deliberations on Goodman's punishment begin Thursday. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Another crew member, 40 year old Teddy Garland of Weatherford is charged with manslaughter in the November 25th death. His case is scheduled for trial Monday.
