Seeing a Difference - Cameras on Buses

Video will be available shortly.

8-26-04 - Bus drivers in the Ardmore school district now have an extra eye to watch students with – video cameras have been installed in every bus. In less than two weeks, they’re already seeing a difference in student behavior.

Drivers say the best feature about the cameras – they allow the drivers to watch the road, while the cameras watch the kids. School officials will monitor the tapes later to look for patterns or cases of misbehavior. The cameras also serve as a security monitor – recording for ten minutes after the bus is shut down.

Last year at this time, bus drivers had written up 25 kids, this year that number has dropped to two.

The cameras only cost the district about $3,000 thanks to a donation from the public.
