Marine Rememered as Friend, Hero

8-27-04 - PFC Nachez Washalanta was remembered in Ardmore Friday, one week after the marine was killed in Iraq. The 21 year old had strong ties to Texoma.

His brother and foster brothers recalled a man who found his way, and a new family when he joined the Marines two years ago. Washalanta was on his second tour of duty in Iraq when his convoy rolled over a bomb on Saturday.

The 21 year old attended Jefferson Elementary School in Ardmore and high school in Silo and Mead.

Services were held at Heritage Hall in Ardmore with a military burial at the Gene Autry Cemetery.
