Credit Scores Determine TXU Rates

8-28-04- TXU Energy plans to begin pegging some of its customers' electricity rates to their credit scores. TXU will charge customers more if they have fallen behind on telephone, power or cable television bills in the past.
It will affect customers outside of North Texas who switched to
TXU to save money on their electricity bills. TXU would be the first major power provider in Texas to use the strategy.
Consumer advocacy groups say the rate plans are misleading and
violate rules for the state's three yearold deregulated electricity market.
The new rate structure is scheduled to take effect September
27th.
