Tax Office Investigation

Video will be available shortly.

8-31-04 - An employee of the Grayson County tax office was fired last month, and is now at the center of an investigation over concerns of embezzling taxpayer dollars.

County Auditor Richey Rivers says it began when a woman reported she never received her tags, despite sending a check for $53.80. Employees followed the paper trail, and found that the check had been cashed. A similar situation occurred two more times – all three cases led back to the same employee.

The total was $167. The Sherman PD has now turned their investigation over to the County Attorney. No charges have been filed yet, but since the employee is considered a public servant, charges against her could be upgraded from a class "b" to a class "a" misdemeanor for theft.
