SHERMAN, TX -- In North Texas, the need for more energy and electricity is growing. Transmission towers could bring more electricity right through Texoma. But the proposed power lines could impact you and your land. And has some asking if the benefit is worth the cost.

Transferring wind-power across the state of Texas is an enormous undertaking, and a project ONCOR is constantly working on.

"It's great for Texas' economy because it's a growing, reliable and clean supply of electricity makes Texas a more attractive state for companies to relocate to when they are creating jobs here," said Catherine Cuellar with ONCOR.

Competitive Renewable Energy Zones is a multi-billion dollar project, building electric lines from the Panhandle to major cities in Texas, and a major line could run through Grayson, Cooke or Collin Counties.

"Believe it or not electricity generate a tremendous amount of tax revenue for the county," said Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum.

That proposed line runs from Krum to Anna, and there are dozens of proposed routes the huge transmission towers could go above and below Lake Ray Roberts. Some right through Keith Abney's and other residents' property.

"We don't wish this on anybody, but we are definitely going to fight it out here, we don't want it out here," said property owner Keith Abney.

"This map shows the preliminary lines that cut through the county, but what it doesn't show are the beautiful homes and valuable property that could be impacted.

"It's not just the unsightliness but the damage it could cause to the wildlife the habitat, the livestock and just the way of life up here."

Another one of their concerns--property values would significantly decline if the 345 kilowat towers ran through the county.

"It would impact the property values in a very negative way and county commissioners should be just as concerned as we are," said property owner Jeff Howel.

ONCOR says they recognize the concerns of property owners and impacts on the environment.

"That's why it's so important that people who know this land better than anybody else provide that information," Cuellar said.

ONCOR sends out letters to those who could be impacted and also hold public hearings.

"So I'd just like to stress to the folks in the county, especially in the southern part of the county, now's the time to get a hold of oncor, they've asked for it so now's the time to tell," said Bynum.

ONCOR will present a preferred route to the Texas Public Utility Commission in September, who will make the final decision on a line.
