A Texoma church is closing, another church taking over its facility

SHERMAN, TEXAS -- A Texoma church is closing, but another local ministry is taking over its building.

Covenant Church had its final service this week after seven years in Sherman.

Another area church, Victory Life, will move into their facility off Travis Street and Canyon Grove.

Covenant Church Pastor James Demelo says the church did well in Sherman, but never grew to fill its sanctuary capacity at 700 people.

Victory Life here in Sherman, on the other hand, has a 1,000 member congregation.

Demelo says it's difficult for churches to thrive in Sherman because there are dozens of churches.

"We were subsidizing this work from the beginning from our main campus and we kept on subsidizing all these seven years and it never really got to where it was carrying its own," Pastor James Demelo said.

Covenant Church is based in Carrolton.

Victory Life has not yet moved into their new building.
