A2A 5k remembers Ardmore woman

ARDMORE, OK - Runners in the Ardmore to Arbuckles 5k will finish their race at the 50 yard line in Noble Stadium to raise money for the Mercy Cancer Center.

This line is also where Robbie Brooks cheered on participants to the very end, and friends say that's the way she lived her life.

"She encouraged people every day of her life and she made people feel very, very loved and that's what she was about," said Gayle Donica, a friend of Brooks' for 16 years.

Brooks died in a 2012 boating accident at Lake Murray. Donica said her friend's involvement with A2A makes it fitting for the 5k to be renamed Robbie's Run.

"It was very much a passion for Robbie because she had many family members affected by cancer so she had actually started a 5k run and so when the A2A came around decided to kind of fold that into them."

The 5k will start behind the Ardmore High School fieldhouse and end back at Noble Stadium where runners will enter at the front and take a final lap around the track.

Dillon Payne is on the A2A advisory board and said that after the 5k Robbie created was combined with A2A she still stayed involved in the cause.

"She was always there at the start and she handled a lot of the responsibilities of the 5k, but she was always there at the start starting the race and she was always there at the finish," said Payne.

"I miss everything about Robbie," Donica said. "I miss seeing her smiling face every day and I miss her hugs every day."

Robbie's Run will begin at 8 a.m. On Sunday, March 30th.

If you're interested in the 5k, you can register online or in person on race day.
