ANNA, TX - The Anna police department is looking to install a video surveillance system to improve safety across the city.
The department submitted an application for $80,000 of grant funds from the North Central Texas Council of Governments to buy the video system.
Sgt. Jeff Caponera says they would use the cameras primarily to monitor city parks.
Anna has seen a 10 percent increase in 911 calls made from city parks since 2010
According to Sgt. Caponera, "Any officer here will be able to monitor the system from their patrol car, from their cell phones, or PDA device. They can operate, control, record."
The department will know whether or not they are awarded the grant sometime in May.
