Ardmore city schools hosted community meetings tonight. At each one residents heard about the long-range plan for the district, and the bond proposals to pay for them.

"We have leaky roofs, we have buildings that were built in the late 1900s," said Sonny Bates, superintendent for Ardmore city schools.

He said the long range plans are prioritized into three series. Tonight's meetings focused on Series One which will include a new roof for the middle school, additional classrooms for two elementary schools and a new Lincoln elementary school.

Bates said some of the changes aim to get students out of temporary buildings.

"The communication is slow, locking down is nearly impossible, in inclement weather when you have temporary buildings, they'll blow away," he said.

A $31 million dollar bond would pay for these and other changes in Weries One. But before the district presents the proposals to the school board, they want community input.

One parent who attended spoke out in support. She believes students are the future.

"Without them, without the education, we're not gonna go very far," said Karie Bradley, parent of an Ardmore High School student. "It's very important that we put into them so they can give back to the community when they're adults."

On Thursday the school board will have a special meeting to decide whether to pursue the bond issue for series one.
