ARDMORE, OK -- Ardmore city officials want to help residents prepare for potentially dangerous winter weather.

At tonight's meeting mayor Sheryll Ellis will present a proclamation to the director of emergency management, Amber Wilson, declaring Monday "Winter Weather Preparedness Day".

Wilson says the goal is to ensure residents remember to slow down on icy roads to travel only if necessary in bad weather and to have an emergency kit ready in case they're stranded at home.

Wilson added, "basically what that means is we just want people to remember that winter weather is approaching. It's that time of year. We just want everyone to have a plan in place. What to do during winter weather. "

Wilson reminds you to pack three days worth of supplies in any emergency kit.
