ARDMORE, OK -- A man arrested in connection with the death of an Ardmore infant last week made his first court appearance Monday.
42-year-old Richard Chastain is being charged with manslaughter in the first degree after his girlfriend's two-month-old son was found dead inside a hot car on 2nd Avenue northeast around 2:30 p.m last Thursday.
His bond is set at $75,000.
Investigators are looking into whether or not Chastain was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
First Assistant District Attorney Heather Cooper says at this time in the investigation, evidence shows Chastain was aware the infant was in the car and that the infant's sibling was also in his care.
Cooper said, "They were loaded into the vehicle. He was supposed to take the children to daycare. He did drop the one year old off at daycare and for some reason did not drop the infant off at daycare."
Cooper says Chastain is due back in court July 15th for a preliminary hearing conference.
