Ardmore pharmacy helps bust Colorado-based drug ring

ARDMORE, OK - Reed Family Pharmacy is getting credit for helping law enforcement bust an alleged major drug ring based out of Denver.

Pharmacy owner Rebecca Reed said when someone brings in an
out-of-state prescription, it is standard procedure to call the doctor for verification. That is how one of Reed's employees was able to detect a fake oxycodone prescription and ultimately help land more than a dozen people in jail.

Reed says when this happened back in March 2012, they immediately called police and were able to distract the person with the fake prescription until authorities got there.

APD arrested Michael Bruzda, Robin Steinke and Leticia Deherrera in the pharmacy parking lot. The three Colorado residents were allegedly printing the prescriptions in their car. Officers said they also found a loaded gun in the vehicle.

"The abuse of prescription drugs is really a big problem right now," District Attorney Craid Ladd said. "I really applaude the pharmacy for their efforts to detect fraudulant prescriptions and then contact law enforcement."

Court documents show Bruzda pleaded guilty in October to illegally obtaining oxycodone. Steinke and Deherrera have posted bond and are awaiting trial in Carter County for multiple gun and drug charges.
Ladd said he believes they are currently jailed in Colorado.
