Wednesday and Thursday are Weather Aware days due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall. Beware of flooded road-ways and never drive around barricades or into water more than six inches deep. High rainfall rates may reduce visibility and also increase the risk of hydroplaning. Turn around, don’t drown! Isolated strong thunderstorms may develop late Wednesday afternoon, but widespread severe weather does not appear to be likely at this time.
ARDMORE, OK - The chase began when Captain Eric Hamblin and Officer Juan Galicia saw the 1998 silver Ford Taurus Henry Jackson was driving near P Street NE and 7th Avenue on January 16th.
Jackson was wanted for a string of shootings including one that night in Johnston County that killed 21- year old Marcus Cole Holt and another in Ardmore that wounded two ATF agents.
An investigation by the Carter County Sheriff's Office into the officer involved shooting that killed Jackson revealed that Jackson shot first, firing 13 rounds at Hamblin and Galicia. Several shots missed Hamblin's head by only inches.
As Hamblin's car turned onto Martin Luther King Blvd., Jackson sped up until he swerved to the left crashing near H Street NE.
The investigation said Jackson then fired 5 more rounds, hitting Hamblin's car twice. That's when the two officers fired back hitting Jackson who died at the scene.
Just last week, after reviewing the sheriff's investigation, district attorney Craig Ladd said the officers use of deadly force in this situation was lawful and just.
