Ardmore Police seek thief who made messy getaway

ARDMORE, OK - Ardmore police are looking for a thief they caught red-handed who made a messy getaway over the weekend.

Ardmore Police Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt says around 5:30 Saturday morning an officer witnessed a man trying to steal property from a storage unit on South Commerce. The man took off in a pickup, and the officer chased him to a driveway in the 200 block of Pierce Road.

Police say that's when the man rammed the officer's patrol car to try and get away. The officer fired two shots at the pickup to try and stop him. The man then drove across several lanes of traffic before he crashed the pickup into a ravine and took off on foot. He remains at large.

Ardmore Police say they are following several strong leads, but they are asking any witnesses to contact them at 580-223-1212. Both vehicles were damaged, but police say the officer was not injured.
