AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A hospital official says two people are in critical condition, and three others are in serious condition, with injuries suffered when a suspected drunken driver who was fleeing police crashed through barricades overnight at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

Police now say the two people who were killed were a man on a bicycle and a woman on a moped.

According to Dr. Christopher Ziebell of University Medical Center-Brackenridge, the two people who are in critical condition have life-threatening head injuries.

In all, 23 people were injured.

Police say the driver eventually crashed and tried to flee on foot, but a police officer shocked him with a stun gun and took him into custody. The suspect faces two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle. He was treated for minor injuries and turned over to police.

The annual music, film and interactive conference draws tens of thousands to Austin each year.
