BONHAM, TX - The Bonham ISD Board of Trustees will vote on a new drug testing policy Monday.

Administrators want to enforce a stricter policy for all students who participate in extra curricular activities.

Superintendent Dr. Marvin Beaty says the district has had very little positive testing in the past, but they are being proactive.

These drugs are included in the districts current policy: amphetamines, tetrahydrocannabinols (THC), benzodiazepine, marijuana, cocaine, methaqualone and opiates - codeine, heroin, morphine, and papaverine.

The new policy would include tests for: alcohol, steroids, phencyclidine, barbiturates, Ecstasy, synthetic marijuana, methadone, propoxyphene and bath salts.

Also under the proposed policy, if a student is arrested by law enforcement for possession of drugs, that will count as a failed drug test for the school.
