Backers of anti-gay ban pray near Scouts offices

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Several hundred people have prayed outside the Boy Scouts of America headquarters in suburban Dallas against lifting a ban on gay members and leaders.

The rally Wednesday in Irving came after national group leaders delayed until May a decision on letting troops decide whether to allow gay membership.

The rally was sponsored by the group Texas Values, which estimated the crowd at between 300 and 400 people.

Participants sang "God Bless America" and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Signs scattered through the crowd said "Don't invite sin into the camp" and "Who sets the agenda for BSA?"

Volunteer officers of the BSA's National Executive Board sought more time to review the issues. A resolution will be prepared for the council's 1,400 voting members to consider in May in Grapevine.
