LAMAR COUNTY, TX - After six hours Tuesday evening, the search for a missing swimmer at Pat Mayse Lake ended when officials recovered the teenager's body.
According to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, the body of an 18-year-old female from Denton County was found around 11 last night, close to Hippie Point.
Sheriff Scott Cass says three swimmers walked out on a submerged sandbar in the lake near the old Hippie Point area, when the victim stepped off the bar into deep water. The two other swimmers attempted to save the victim, but were unsuccessful.
State Game Wardens were able to locate the body by sonar, just southwest of the sandbar she was walking on.
The body has been sent to the American Forensics for autopsy, as State Game Wardens investigate.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notification.
