Breast cancer survivors honored at Grayson College

GRAYSON COLLEGE, TEXAS -- It's a rare cause that brings together pink panthers, pink flamingos, superheros, 50s girls and a gorilla.

Even the men say they're proud to wear pink.

"Because it's breast cancer awareness day," Hazco fire students said.

It's a plethora of pink at Grayson College today, where students and staff have come together to rally against breast cancer.

Grayson College professor Kay Dishner founded the Just Doo It, as in doo rags, breast cancer benefit, in honor of her colleague.

"Last year, when we came back to school in the fall, Lisa, our librarian, was wearing a doo-rag. That was the first I knew she had been diagnosed," Dishner said.

It became Kay's mission to host this fundraiser for Women Rock.

Today they raised $2,500 for local breast cancer patients and survivors, like Gayle Radican.

"You feel so much hope and support and it's just so much," Radican said.

24 year-old Rozlyn Austin is also a survivor. She was diagnosed at age 23 with a rare form of breast cancer.

"July 18, 2012, I was announced cancer free," Austin said.

Money raised today will help fund a Women Rock safe-haven near Lake Texoma.

"It's just a wonderful thing for survivors or those going through treatment to be able to get away," Women Rock founder Luanna Daniel said.

"Just keep your head up, for one. Don't let it get you down. If you can push through it, you can make it," Austin said.
