Teen found lying in woods after fleeing Calera PD and crashing car in ditch

BRYAN COUNTY, OK -- A teenager was found lying in the woods after fleeing from Calera police and crashing her car into a ditch this morning.

KXII was on the scene shortly after the 3:29 a.m. call about an empty car in a ditch. Colbert Fire's Assistant Chief Jonathan Horn says the 17 year old driver was on her way home from work when the police chase began.

"They contacted the owner of the car's residence and they said the driver had been at work and was out running around and still hadn't made it home yet," said Horn.

Even though her car ended up in a ditch off 75 northbound, the chase actually started from the opposite direction.

"She was southbound on 69/75," Horn said. "And drove over the barrier cable and jumped over the scale house, we're standing over the scale house exit here, jumped it and landed in the ditch."

Horn says officials believe that's the point when she fled. So when backup arrived, they found the car but no driver. Northbound 75 was temporarily closed while police and fire from Calera, Bryan,Colbert and Grayson as well as Air Evac helicopters from Sherman searched for the missing teen.

She was found nearly three hours later laying next to a tree in the woods where she'd been hiding just 75 yards away from the scene.
The young woman was then driven by ambulance to TMC.

Officer Justin Foster of Colbert P.D. says she may have been laying in the grass because she was too hurt to keep running. No word yet on her condition.
