CARTER COUNTY, OK -- The Carter County Sheriffs Office is investigating a fatal shooting.
Sheriff Ken Grace says 47-year-old Sammy Beaird was shot and killed Sunday afternoon at a home in the 2500 block of Knob Hill Road. The home is located between Healdton and Ratliff City. Investigators say Beaird took his girlfriend to the home of Travis Gillaspy, her ex-boyfriend, to get some of her things. Authorities say Gillaspy shot Beaird after getting into an argument. Investigators say both men were armed.
Grace says Gillaspy was booked in the county jail for First-Degree Murder, but pending further investigation Grace says Gillaspy may have acted in self defense.
