SULPHUR, OK - The Chickasaw Nation hosted its first ever Artesian Arts Festival Saturday.
This was their first time to hold this event, which celebrated art from southeastern tribes including Chickasaw, Choctaw and Creek.
The Chickasaw nation said 37 artists came to Sulphur to show off their work next to the Artesian Hotel.
One of the event organizers explained why they're celebrating artists from this region.
"They should be promoted," said Laura Stewart, interim executive dirtector for the division of Arts and Humanities for the Chickasaw Nation. "I don't think everybody really knows about their type of design that they use."
The festival also included art lectures, demonstrations and live entertainment.
