COLBERT, OK -- Hundreds of students at Colbert High School were forced to evacuate after an electrical fire this morning. Colbert Fire received the call around 9:30 a.m. after a fire broke out behind the old middle school.

Authorities say the fire was caused by wires outside the building leading into the school. Assistant Chief Jonathan Horn says no one was injured as nearly 600 children were evacuated. Horn says teachers jumped into action with a fire extinguisher.

"With an electrical we just made sure that all of the power was shut off to that building to the area of the school there," said Horn. "We made sure we waited for all the kids to get back in. They put the kids in other classrooms for the remainder of the day."

An electrical company was on the scene around 10:45 a.m. to start fixing the problem and to assess the cause of the fire.
