COMMERCE, TX -- A Commerce man has been arrested for downloading child porn.
Police Chief Kerry Crews says three weeks ago the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office received information they received a tip 31-year-old Erion Eugene Shirley was downloading and distributing child pornography.
In a joint effort between the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force and the Commerce Police Department an investigation into the crimes began. Sunday, investigators were able to obtain a search warrant and executed the search of Shirley's home, in the 2300 block of Taylor Street, immediately.
During the search, Shirley admitted he'd circulated the photos and videos he knew to be child pornography. He was arrested and is now being held in the Hunt County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
The case is being reviewed by the District Attorney's office and additional charges may be added.
