COOPER, TX -- A Cooper man has been arrested accused of setting fire to his own mobile home with the help of his friend.

After extinguishing the home last Thursday, fire officials noticed suspicious burn patterns and found bottles of accelerants. An investigation by the state fire marshal's office followed.

Homeowner Jerry Lacouture and accomplice Brent Williams, both of Cooper, were arrested over the weekend and charged with arson.

“Arson is a serious offense and it can end in substantial property loss, injury or loss of life," said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith. "In this case the motive appears to be related to possible financial and family problems and a desire to escape these problems.”
