Cruz content to ignore Sadler in Texas Senate race

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Ted Cruz is fond of saying that there's only two ways to campaign: scared or unopposed - and that he's not running unopposed.

But lately, the U.S. Senate candidate and tea party firebrand is sure acting like he's the only one in the race.

Cruz is thought to have a commanding lead against ex-Democratic state representative Paul Sadler and has largely ignored his opponent.

Instead, he's concentrated on fundraising and mending fences with a Texas GOP establishment he attacked during the fiercely contested Republican senatorial primary.

Sadler says his opponent's views are too extreme for Texas, but Cruz has refused to respond, trying to deny Sadler a chance to raise his profile statewide.

During the Republican primary, Cruz criticized opponent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for using the same strategy.
